Australian education system is a framework of interrelated qualifications known as Australian Qualifications Framework.

Australia’s system of student protection is the strictest in the world. It is governed by law. All education providers must be registered with the Commonwealth Register of Institutions and Courses for Overseas Students (CRICOS) and must adhere to very strict quality standards. The Australian Government together with different professional bodies constantly controls and strictly monitors that these standards are observed.

Legislative Acts covering international education sector are:

  • CRICOS (Commonwealth Register of Institutions and Courses for Overseas Students)
  • lists all Australian education providers to offer courses to people studying in Australia on student visas and the courses offered.
  • The ESOS Act 2000
  • Registration process, obligations of registered providers, ESOS Assurance Fund, and enforcement and compliance powers.
  • The National Code is a set of nationally consistent standards that governs the protection of overseas students and delivery of courses to those students by providers registered on CRICOS.
